The map covers the downtown area of the present-day city, from Townsend Street in the south to Bay Street in the north, and from Front Street in the east to Larkin Street in the west. The map shows numbered landowner plots, as well as four public squares: Portsmouth Square, Washington Square, Union Square, and Victoria Manalo Draves Park (the last three are simply labelled "Public Square").
