Description
A facsimile map made in the late 19th century of Joliet's 1674 map of North America. The Mississippi River is named Riviere de Buade in honor of Louis de Buade, the French governor of New France. On the left, in a letter from Joliet to de Buade, Joliet erroneously states that there is a river connecting the Mississippi River to the Mer Vermeille (Gulf of California).
Original title: Nouvelle Decouverte de Plusieurs Nations dans la Nouvelle France en L'Annee 1673 et 1674 (New Discovery of Several Nations in New France in the Years 1673 and 1674)
